Intercontinental GT Challenge return to Kyalami

Kyalami will once again host the international Kyalami 9-hour race after a 37-year absence.

The international racing event which dates back to as far as the 1960s will take place at the infamous and newly renovated Kyalami Grand Prix circuit situated in Johannesburg from 21 to 23 November 2019. Forming part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli, crowds can expect eight manufacturers, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes AMG, Nissan and Porsche vehicles in FIA GT3 specification to take to the track.

“I’ve spent years trying to get this African leg of the series off the ground. To finally have it all locked in is a massive achievement and one that I am absolutely delighted about having an African part of this championship means that we are now across five continents. We are truly a global event and we look forward to November when the thrilling sounds of the vehicles light up Kyalami for nine hours,” Stéphane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Group Founder and CEO.

Alongside the full-season competitors, international GT stars from South Africa, Kelvin van der Linde and Jordan Pepper will form part of the grid and battle for victory. Historically, attendees saw vehicles like the Porsche 550 Spider as well as the Ferrari 250 GTO and 512M battle it out. The racing series hosted at Kyalami also saw drivers such as Jacky Ickx, Jochen Mass and David Piper compete for the podium.

“When Stéphane came to me with this suggestion, I didn’t hesitate in letting him know that I was keen to get involved, Kyalami has always been the stage for iconic motorsport events, and to have the Kyalami 9 Hour return here is truly special. It also adds a wonderful international event to the calendar that local

families can come and enjoy,” Toby Venter, Owner, Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit
