DJ Sibo Pilson is back and means to stay

The former safety officer is now a radio presenter at Rise FM and has her own show, Weekend Breakfast with Sibo.

Do you still remember when songs used to hit Johannesburg first and Mpumalanga would only know about them months later?

Well, that was around the time Rise FM’s Sibo Pilson started developing her love for mixing. Luckily for the 27-year-old DJ, her sister was living in Johannesburg and would bring her all the latest jams during holidays.

“I started enjoying house music back when Cleo, Fresh, and T-zo were still big and Black Coffee had just come out. I had male friends in matric with whom I used to DJ when there were braais and family gatherings,”Pilson said.

But the star’s small newfound fame soon came to an end when her father told her to stop DJ-ing. “This was because being a DJ meant I spent a lot of time with boys, and so I quit.”
This lass went on and made the customary move: got a corporate job as a safety officer, got married and had a child. “I got married at a very young age and I did not love my job at all,” Pilson confessed.

She is now a radio presenter at Rise FM and has her own show, Weekend Breakfast with Sibo.
It was after she started on radio in 2015, that she decided to get back to the DJ scene. She has since played in local events around and outside the province.

Being born and bred in this district, Kabokweni, popularly known as Ngodini, the star said she would love to play for a different crowd. “I love my province, alright, but as artists, we are not appreciated until we are seen playing far from home and that culture should cease,” Pilson said.

She added promoters and managers take local artists for a ride and worship artists from outside
the province.
“There is so much talent here, and we should support our artists instead of claiming them as our own only when they make it.” For bookings, email sibopilson@gmail.com.
