Pair appear in court for selling fake U.S Dollar and Euro notes

The suspects robbed their victims by selling the fake notes in exchange of the rand.

Temwa Lisa Masoka and Andrew Hopkins Mzaliwa appeared at the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for alleged possession of fake foreign currency.

According to the Hawks, the accused were arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit last week following a tip-off that they were allegedly selling fake U.S dollars and Euro notes to victims in exchange of the rand. Stacks of foreign currency were confiscated from the pair for further investigation.

During the bail application proceedings, it was established that Masoka had an outstanding warrant of arrest on her name from a similar offence in Johannesburg. Meanwhile, Mzaliwa was granted R5 000.00 bail. “The case against the pair has been postponed to the August 29, pending further investigation,” reads the statement.
