Suspected poachers to appear in court while others rob a liquor store

The suspects will appear at the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court today. Meanwhile, police are also looking for suspects who robbed a liquor store on Wednesday evening.

MBOMBELA – Two men, aged 20 and 37, will appear at the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to police, the pair were arrested on Wednesday during an intelligence-driven operation. The two suspects were allegedly on their way to a private game reserve around Hoedspruit to poach. Their plan, however, was thwarted when police intercepted the vehicle along the R40.

The officers searched the vehicle and discovered a hunting rifle hidden under the back seat.

In a separate incident, police are searching for five suspects who robbed a liquor store in Standerton Wednesday night.

It is alleged that two men entered the store pretending to be customers, when suddenly one of them pulled out a firearm and ordered a staff member to lie down while others were ordered to go at the back of the store.

“A few minutes later, the two suspects were joined by three others. They stole liquor worth thousands of rands, which they loaded  into their vehicle, a grey, Ford Focus with no registration plates, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene,” said Colonel Mtsholi Bembhe.
