Parents of Klipspringer Primary demand proper school

Challenges of the school includes overcrowding due to the influx of children from neighbouring communities, including Kamagugu, Lekazi and Matsulu coming to urban schools.

Angry parents at Klipspringer Primary School in Mbombela told representatives from the department of education that they needed answers to their demands made before Friday next week.

“The children will come to school on Monday and we are expecting a response from government on Friday. But if the response is not satisfactory to our demands, we will shut down the school,” says Chatherine Mokoena, chairperson of the school governing body.

She explained that the school, which is over 40 years old, is falling apart with old structures with asbestos roofs.

“The engineer sent by the department also said the severity of the situation is a life threatening one,” she said.
She added that the school is also faced with challenges of overcrowding due to the influx of children from neighbouring communities, including Kamagugu, Lekazi and Matsulu coming to urban schools.

Mr Jabulani Nkosi, the acting head of department says the department is aware of the challenges faced by the school. “We are aware of the challenges of the school, we sent our team of engineers, they investigated at the school and we have received their report. The school is already in our 2019/20 financial year in terms of addressing the immediate challenges,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by school governing bodies from other schools in town which are faced with similar challenges.
