Author Mbalenhle Xulu launches her book, The Undying Spirit of a Woman

Growing up as a reserved child introduced Mbalenhle Xulu to the art of writing, as it became her place of safety.

Mbali, the founder of publishing company Mbali Marks, will on June 15 launch her book, The Undying Spirit of a Woman, at Elangeni Lodge.

The event, which promises to be a must for avid readers, women and teenagers, will start at 10:00.
Mbali published her first book in 2010, and has never looked back. Inspired by testimonials of people around her and her own experiences, she has printed four editions of The Undying Spirit of a Woman. This is a collection of poetry, short stories and inspirational messages.

The book covers day-to-day challenges faced by both young and old women. It tackles issues of teenage pregnancy, domestic abuse and other forms of abuse faced by women and girls in society at home and work. “I write with the hope to transform lives, or at least shed some light regarding the struggles faced by women on daily basis,” Mbali said.

Mbali promises the audience attending her book launch nothing but the best. “The audience will be motivated and inspired to overcome whatever challenges they are facing. My targets are mostly women and teenage girls, who in most times are affected by issues of patriarchy,” she said.

Attendees will also be motivated by Ligwalagwala FM’s motivational speaker and marriage counselor, Make Gladys Pule and Pastor Nomonde Mhlongo of the Hope of Glory Church in Durban.

Mbali also hopes to help others overcome the stereotype that for one to succeed in life they need to have come from a rich background and attended a multi-racial school.

“I am a testimony that one’s background has nothing to do with the future, as long as you are determined, focused and working hard to achieve your dreams,” she said. Mbali matriculated at Dlamvuzo High School at Esikhawini near Richards Bay. She understood how important it was for her to follow her dream against all odds. She thanked her parents for giving her proper guidance and her late English teacher who believed in her abilities and was willing to nurture them. Mbali draws inspiration from her own experiences and from those around her.

Talking about her company’s name; Mbali Marks; she said “The name Mbali Marks is informed by the fact that everyone, through their everyday living, makes marks. My writing is the marks I choose to be remembered by.”
She also does live performances for different events, depending on the host’s request, but always leaves the audience captivated through her articulate writing and tackling of real issues.
