Through the grapevine: Clothes cannot change the world, the people who wear them can

The dress code for the night was “black tie” at the Crowning Miss Mpumalanga pageant and a big thumbs up to those who stuck to the theme.

We attended the Crowning of Miss Mpumalanga last Saturday and it was lit!

Most were beautifully dressed, but some comments about how other people were dressed are really unnecessary.

First and foremost, we do not have professional stylists in Mbombela. Secondly, not everyone really knows what a black-tie affair is or what the dress code entails, so let’s give credit where it’s due. People tried! Lastly, the after-party started very late and self-appointed fashion critics still expected guests to be hitting the dance floor in heels. Get outta here!

Moving right along to the performances, we’re going to have to be honest and say we’re running out of patience with some artists. Many will agree and some will send tons of hate mail to us, but it’s ok. Reshen, no offence, but we expected more from you. You have pipes for Africa and we can never ever doubt your vocal abilities, but it’s about time you release that album. It’s 20 nice things, so do make our year man!

Brenden Ledwaba’s performance was not the best and featuring his beautiful wife was not the best decision. U-brothers even tried dancing, but it just turned out messy. If only Black Motion was there. We are just saying!

Speaking of that, why did Celani Dube say Black Motion sings really well? When does Reshen become Russian? Was he hungry perhaps?

Either way, we all had a good time and we must say the new Miss Mpumalanga is a breath of fresh air. All the best for her reign.

Have a great weekend and remember that clothes cannot change the world, the people who wear them can.

May the force be with you!
