Soweto Gospel Choir wins Grammy Award for the third time

Soweto Gospel Choir made South Africans proud when they won the Best World Music Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony at Staples Center in Los Angeles yesterday.

This is the choir’s third Grammy award.

The group recorded their winning album “Freedom” in June 2018 as part of their tribute to the Nelson Mandela’s 100 years celebrations. The album features a selection of struggle songs, including Johnny Clegg`s song “Asimbonanga”.

Last year Ladysmith Black Mambazo scooped the Best World Music Category marking their fifth Grammy.
