Dreams followed by action are achievable

Msimango, who was illiterate until she was 59 years old when she enrolled for adult classes, was declared the best overall adult learner in the country.

NELSPRUIT – Any dream can come true if one sets one’s mind to it and works hard.

This became evident when Ms Annah Msimango, an adult student from Emalahleni Local Municipality and Mr Sibusiso Judas Mudala, a blind student, were honoured by MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, after completing grade 12.

Msimango, who was illiterate until she was 59 years old when she enrolled for adult classes, was declared the best overall adult learner in the country.

Mhaule said the Abet learner was the pride of the province and demonstrated to the whole country that age is just a number.

She was overjoyed to receive an award and attributed her achievement to God, who she said renewed her energy and gave her a open mind to understand the lessons.

“Before I enrolled I could not even use a TV remote control. I would watch whatever was playing until my children came back from school, but today I have been awarded with a laptop that I can use,” she said excitedly.

When Mudala approached the department and requested support to study towards achieving his matric, he did not expect to get a full bursary from the department.

He jumped for joy when he received the token of appreciation for his courage and said that he was grateful for the department for providing specialised computer software and hardware which helped him to finish in two years.

“It was a difficult but enjoyable journey and I made it. Disability should not be a barrier to learning, I am a living testimony to that,” said the grateful Mudala.
