OUR VIEW: Happy Women’s Day to all women in our land

If there's anything that the people of South Africa need right at this moment, it is to be rescued from unemployment, poverty and lack of economic opportunities. That is vital if you want to win their hearts.

July, by right, is Mandela Month and politicians were right to emulate him by giving and sacrificing life and wealth to the underprivileged. In fact, as has always been said, Mandela Month is just one example of a nation acting in unison across all colour-lines in recognising the underprivileged. You know what I think, if you’re doing it wholeheartedly, God will reward you somehow, but not directly – you will have good fortunes in your endeavours.

If you’re pretending, lo unto you, because you’ll be engaged in all sorts of conflict with life in general because life’s lesson about giving is doing it unreservedly and with no expectations of any rewards.

Nowadays, politicians across the land engage in such activities only to be rewarded with being elected into certain positions. Once they’re in, all sorts of difficulties in delivering upon promises start being spilled out. The question is: didn’t one anticipate all of these hurdles before duping people to vote for him or her? If there was any anticipation, thereof, one would have addressed such during one’s campaigns that much as he would like to deliver certain things, there are certain hurdles which one needs to discuss with the electorate so that they understand that one has to first remove those hurdles before freely delivering on promises.

The electorate is your neighbour, your brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin and everything. All of the mentioned people are approachable any time. And certainly, if you’re incapable of being a worthy leader, they, too, are at liberty to denounce you and opt for a better candidate.

A word of caution to the electorate: do not be blindfolded by unscrupulous individuals to vote for a certain candidate because they are benefiting from him or her in order to convince you to follow suit. There are many capable and learned individuals within our communities, not the connected ones, who can uplift souls and better their lives.

It’s Women’s Month, rightly today we commemorate the historic march by women from all walks of life to the Union Buildings in 1956 on this day. Among those women, are numerous unsung heroes who are least celebrated, but they contributed immensely with their presence on that historic day.

Let’s salute women, respect and adore them, always. Happy Women’s Day to all women in our land.
