NELSPRUIT – A couple was attacked in their house in Halsnoer Crescent in Sonheuwel early this morning.
According to Mr Jacques Meiring from Bossie’s Community Justice, the suspects cut the security fencing and got onto the property from a wooded area. They then gained access to the house through an open window.
The incident occurred at about 04:00. The suspects held the husband and wife at gunpoint before tying them up with wire.
The man was beaten over the head with a pistol and had to go to hospital to get stitches. The suspects fled the scene on foot with cellphones and laptops.
Officials of Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit were on the scene after the couple’s alarm system alerted them and Meiring arrived soon after. He also lauds SAPS for their quick response to the incident.
Meiring advises the community to keep windows without burglar bars closed, as it can provide an easy access point for criminals. He urges people with alarm systems to activate it at night or when away. This will help the security company to quickly respond to any crises.
