Tourists attacked in Botanical Gardens

Two British tourists were attacked and robbed at the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens on December 24.

NELSPRUIT – A scenic walk in the Lowveld National Botanical Garden turned into a harrowing experience for two British tourists on December 24. They were mugged by two men at the look-out point at 15:00.

One of the tourists was hit in the head with a rock, but not seriously injured and both tourists were robbed of their possessions.

Mr Jacques Meiring of Bossies Justice and a few members of Hi-Tech Security searched the area for the suspects. “We probably walked 7 or 8 km trying to follow the suspects but we unfortunately couldn’t find them,” says Meiring.

The robbers were wearing dark clothes, one was tall and skinny with a thin mustache, while the other was short and wearing a grey shirt.

Meiring urges visitors to the Garden to pay attention to their surroundings. “Don’t assume that everyone around you is a tourist and be aware of suspicious behaviour. To avoid your valuables getting lost or stolen, do not carry them on your person when going for a walk.”
