People’s expressed their aspirations through social media#provincial budget

Delivering the provincial R48,1 billion budget, on Tuesday, Kholwane mentioned a few names whose aspirations had been responded to in this budget.

Social media has proven to play a vital role in helping decision-makers adhere the needs of the community.

This was heard during the tabling of the provincial 2018/19 budget speech by the MEC for finance economic development and tourism, Mr Eric Sikhumbuzo Kholwane at the legislature.

“Hi Mr Celani Dube and Mr Buntu Mei, rest assured your concerns are being addressed,” said Kholwane while delivering the R1, 7 billion allocated for the department of human settlement. He added that the amount also includes R165 million to address sewer spillage challenges in Emzinoni, Embalenhle, Tekwane South and the refurbishment and internal reticulation in Amersfoort

“Sanitation challenges in Siyanqoba and Mashishing will be covered through the existing Mining Town Grant,” said Kholwane.

In response to Mr Lawrence Bayaphi Msiza, Kholwane said he will address the question of the revitalization of the industrial parks when he delivers the policy and budget speech of the department of Economic Development and Tourism in a few weeks’ time

Kholwane mentioned that the allocation of R4,9 billion allocated for the department of public works, roads and transport also includes an allocation to deal with tourism road infrastructure around Thaba Chweu as suggested by Unkle Mdu Nkosi on social media.

Kholwane said that he had also heard the request made by Mr Sifiso Jacob and Mr Zakhele Ntimane for a progress report in respect of the Waterval Boven and Pilgrim’s Rest Tourism revitalisation programme.

He said he will provide a progress report during the tabling of the department’s budget vote.

The analysis of the budget of the 2018/19 financial year shows that 60, 42 percent will be spent on compensation of employees while 19, 35 per cent will be spent on goods, services, transfers and subsidies. The remaining 20, 23 percent will be used payments for capital assets.
