Illegal land grab resurfaces at Msholozi

Those in support of Nkosi’s sentiments, say the invasion is illegal and relevant authorities need to act as soon as possible, while the buyers say they need land for dwelling and business purposes.

Illegal land grabbing is once more taking place at Msholozi.

Some residents have already bought portions of land from yesterday from certain individuals who claim to have an agreement with the rightful owner of lands to sell the land. However, some residents think what is happening is illegal.

“How can the so-called owner sell land without him being here? This is wrong because the land had been earmarked for the development of the of P166 road and besides, if we allow such land invasions to continue in this place, where will schools, clinics and other facilities be built,” asked a furious resident, Zweli Nkosi (not his real name to protect his identity).

Mpumalanga News learnt that sellers of the land which includes prominent leaders in the community, charge land seekers varying prizes from R20 and R50 for registration purposes, plus between R500 and R1 500 for the stands. “Currently there is a squabble among them on a fixed cost,” he said.

Mr Joseph Ngala, spokesperson for the municipality said the municipality hasn’t received any information on the latest invasions. However, they will act promptly.

“We will involve relevant stakeholders to see to it that the situation is dealt with. Information received from the local ward councillor is that the situation is manageable,” he said.
