New Africa Development cycling team leads cycling tour

Members of the New Africa Development team obtained top positions in the 170 km ride between Mount Sheba and Mbombela stadium.

Yesterday marked the third day of the third annual Mpumalanga cycling tour which saw hundreds of cyclists brave the scorching sun in the Lowveld region.

Gawie Combrinck obtained the first position, followed shortly by his team-mate Nico Bell. “I am very happy that we are so far doing well in our own home town as a team,” he said.

His team and the rest of the other teams will ride over a 140 km from White River via Barberton to Mbombela. Sibongile Nkosi, spokesperson for the department of sports, culture and recreation appealed to motorists to continue being patient and give way to cyclists on the roads.

“So far things are okay, we have attracted a lot of community where we passed by and they appreciated the teams. We continue to request motorists to be patient and bear with us on the road. So far, we appreciate their cooperation on the roads and we plead with them to do likewise even tomorrow and in the other areas,” she said.
