Six DJ`s battle it out

Top disc jockies battled it out at the grand finale of Mpumalanga's Finest DJ Competition, held at Elukwatini Stadium on Saturday. The event was hosted by Ligwalagwala FM in partnership with Melokuhle Entertaimnent.

ELUKWATINI- Six DJs competed for the grand price of R50 000’s worth of equipment and a chance to be a resident DJ for a year on Ligwalagwala’s afternoon-drive show. DJ Mxoka, DJ Scelo, Sergio Taylor, Nhlanhla, DJ Tonic T and Melo Soul were judged on song selection, transition, audience response and skill.

Sergio Taylor impressed the judges and walked away with the grand prizes. DJ Nhlanhla had to make peace with being the runner-up.
During an interview with Mpumalanga News, Taylor said it took him about a month to prepare for the competition. “It felt really amazing when I heard my name being called. Being on stage was nerve-wrecking, but I took time to study my audience and that is how I selected the music for them,” said Taylor.

He continued to say that being a DJ required a lot of time and that he had to make sacrifices. “Since I quit my job to work full-time on my career as a DJ, I will use the opportunity I got on Ligwalagwala FM to the best of my ability.”
Taylor thanked the audience for supporting him. “I was not expecting to win, but I had confidence after seeing how the audience responded to my performance. I also would like to thank my manager for having faith in me.”
Taylor resides in White River and has been a DJ for the past eight years.
The event was themed “Old School vs New School”, and the audience enjoyed performances from well-known artists like Zola, Ntsiki Mazwai and Mapaputsi.
