Gogo reaches 100 years

A humble personality and respect for humanity will sustain one's livelihood. That's the earnest belief of 100-year-old Gogo Annie Nkosi.

PIENAAR –  Gogo Nkosi was born and raised in Peinaar. She is a mother to 11 children, but unfortunately she got to live longer than nine of them. Out of that she has 19 grandchildren. She said growing up, she was engaged in farming and ate healthy food which she believes contributed a lot to her well-being. Although gogo cannot walk, talk and hear properly anymore, but she still survived living a whole century.

“I took everything I ate from the garden and I never liked unhealthy food. That is why I never had health issues. I believe this is how I got to live long,” Gogo Nkosi said.

Other than looking after her health, Gogo Nkosi said that the bible does not lie when it talks about respecting your elders in order to live long. She is the first one in the family to ever reach 100 years and she is still living.

“I did not only respect my parents, but every elderly person even younger ones because I wanted to be respected, too,” she added.

Her church and family members decided to throw a 100th birthday that she will never forget. She was spoiled and was a queen for the day. She was dining with her mates and they enjoyed the meals prepared for them.
She is looked after by her daughter Busi Phiri, who described her as a very calm person said that they are very privileged to have a mother who is at this age.

“We are only two of her children surviving, so it is our full responsibility to look after her. The only disadvantage is that someone has to be around her on a full-time basis,” said Busi.
She is not very strong anymore but she can never be a burden to us as her children.”
