Operation fiela yields positive results in Mpumalanga

The operation, which was conducted by joint forces was carried out from November 30 to December 3, 2017 and netted a total of 217 people for various crimes.

NELSPRUIT – Newly-appointed National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Khehla Sitole ruled that the SAPS needed to implement Operation Fiela, albeit for a short period of time in bringing crime levels down.

The operation, which was conducted by joint forces was carried out from November 30 to December 3, 2017 and netted a total of 217 people for various crimes such as rape, assault (with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and common), robbery (common), illegal possession of firearm, malicious damage to property, drug-related, liquor-related and contravention of the Liquor Act.

A total of 221 traffic fines were also issued for violation of the Road Traffic Act.

The forces also seized illicit cigarettes and clothes, dangerous weapons, narcotic drugs (dagga, cocaine powder and crack cocaine, crystal meth, Ecstasy and nyaope).

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma hailed the members of the various law enforcement agencies who continue working jointly for one single purpose, ensuring that our communities are and do feel safe wherever they may be.
