BREAKING NEWS: Oscar Pistorius’ sentence extended to 13 years

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) argued in its appeal that the six-year sentence was shockingly lenient for the crime and requested that the prescribed minimum term of 15 years be imposed.

The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein incresed the former Paralympian’s  sentence from six to 13 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.

Judge Thokozile Masipa initially decided not to impose the minimum prescribed sentence for murder, which amounts to 15 years in July 2016. Pistorius served only 10 months of the five-year sentence in prison before being released and put under house arrest.
