Hard working learners receive a much needed donation

150 underprivileged matric learners will no longer study on empty stomachs.

As a way of inspiring underprivileged learners to maintain a 100 per cent pass rate, Coronation Fund Managers recently handed over a much-needed donation.

These grade 12 learners received mattresses, blankets, toiletries, cleaning supplies and food on a daily basis.

Moses Mnisi is a school in Okkerneutboom outside Bushbuckridge and for the past 12 years, the school performed exceptionally well.

In preparation for their final exams they camp at the school and study around the clock. Due to lack of facilities, 150 learners had to sleep in the school hall, toilets and classrooms.

According to the deputy principal, Ms Vivian Makhubele, learners must never study on an empty stomach. “Before this donation, our learners had to endure the challenge of studying on an empty stomach.

Against all odds, they continue to work hard and make us proud.

We have scored 100 percent since 2005,” she said.

When the CEO of Coronation Fund Managers, Mr Anton Pillay heard about the challenges the school is going through, he saw it fit to lend a helping hand.

“These pupils inspire us. They are determined to achieve the best possible grades, no matter the sacrifices required. We want to support them in any way we can,” said Pillay.
“Education can break the cycle of poverty and these children are true heroes in their commitment to change their futures through hard work,” he added.

In line with the Coronation’s CSI strategy, they focus mainly on education. The investment management company also plans to provide bursaries and educational support to the top four performing learners through its CSI partners.
