Woman goes missing on the mountains

The community of eMpakeni and the police are searching for a missing woman who disappeared into the nearby mountains on Saturday.

She was with a 13-year-old boy with whom she went up the mountains in search of cattle and never came back.

Zodwa Mabunda, 43, and Siyabonga Gumede, 13,disappeared into the foggy weather as they are believed they could not properly see the place where they were going. It is believed that Siyabonga fell from a long cliff and that was when the two separated.

Jabu Ndubane, Pienaar cluster police spokesperson said the 13 year old boy tried to walk in the darkness until he arrived at the N4 road. “Community members took the boy who was limping around Kanyamazane complex in the early hours of Sunday and dropped him off at the police station. That was when police got to know about the whole story of the disappearance of the woman from the boy’s perspective,” Ndubane said.

The boy, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged. He is now under the guidance of his parents.

A case of a missing person has been opened. The K9-Unit and local Police, as well as community members, are still busy searching for the woman.
