People living with Albinism embrace their month

As September is Albinism month, the Albinism Society in Mbombela has planned to go around all communities in Mbombela with the aim of teaching people about the condition.

Deputy Chairperson of the organisation, Gladys Nkosi said that they cannot teach each other as they know all about the albinism condition, but they want to teach communities.

“We want to be loved, accepted and respected. We want to come across as human beings, just like everyone else,” said Nkosi

She said that they are not going to stop teaching about the condition until people change their mentality. They meet every month at the Kabokweni community hall to educate the community about all the myths about people living with albinism that they can be used for luck and medicine, which is not true.

The main aim of the society is to make people aware that the condition only affects the skin, hair and eyes.
