Jealous ex girlfriend’s bail application postponed

The two were remanded in custody and will appear for their formal bail application and the decision of the public prosecutor on September 1.

Two women accused of the murder and kidnap of the 24-year-old Bongekile Mokoena briefly appeared in KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Ms Lindiwe Mdluli (31) from Nyongane outside Hazyview and her co-accused Ms Julendah Nkomo (36) from Burgesfort, had their bail application postponed to September 1.

The state prosecutor Mr John Mahlwele asked the court to postpone the matter because the accused’s murder charge does not fall under his jurisdiction but under that of Bushbuckridge – where the offence was committed.

“The kidnap case happened under my jurisdiction and it will need to be transferred to Bushbuckridge to be joined with the murder case. We will, however, wait for the public prosecutor’s decision,” he said.

Mokoena was last seen with her boyfriend on August 4.

Her boyfriend was allegedly shocked when he could not find her next to him the following morning. Mokoena’s body was found in Inyaka Dam by a taxi driver who went to wash his vehicle on August 7.

The boyfriend’s ex and her friend were also arrested on August 7.

Community members picketed outside court demanding that the court deny the two suspects’ bail.
