Family held at gunpoint for their bakkie

Cross-border theft of vehicles between South Africa and Mozambique continues to be a thorn in the flesh for authorities.

NKOMAZI – This is despite a trench that was dug around the border fence to prevent stolen vehicles from crossing over, vehicle robberies and hijackings along the border continue to pose a risk for nearby communities.
The latest victims are Mr Lordrick Dlamini and his family. It was around 01.00 on Saturday when Sanele Dlamini, the victim’s son went to the bathroom, when he opened the door, he found four men holding guns, coming from his mother’s bedroom.

The four gained access to the house through a window. They held everyone at gunpoint and demanded the bakkie keys from Dlamini, the owner.“They tied us up and locked us in my room before fleeing with the vehicle,” he says.
The suspects also made off with cell phones, sound system and a TV.

MEC for security, safety and community liaison, Mr Pat Ngomane says they will visit the area during the course of the week to address the issue. He also urged Nkomazi residents to stop hiding vehicles on behalf of the criminals.
A case of theft has been opened.
