World Tourism Day launched in Dullstroom

The theme for this year's tourism month is sustainable tourism for development.

DULLSTROOM – Tourism is the backbone of the country’s economy hence all efforts must be made to make it flourish.
During the launch of world tourism day to be hosted by this province on September 27, Minister of Tourism, Ms Thokozile Xasa says tourism is a sustainable drive for economic support. She has called on citizens of the country to visit less visited areas in their areas and promote domestic tourism.
” We are experiencing a downturn in the country’s economy, increased unemployment figures and never at any stage did we receive threats in tourism. This is an exciting moment for tourism to come up with strategies to boost our economy, ” says Xasa.

 


She adds that South Africa with its beautiful scenario, is a hope of Africa and the world through tourism. “We need to tell more of the good stories about South Africa to the whole world and South Africans. Put focus on this sector and recognise players that are making it flourish”.

Xasa called on the citizens of the country to understand each other and give spotlight to less visited places and unleash those hidden jewels in tourism. She urged communities to travel their own country. “We want South Africans to find new appreciation of their own country, leaving financial footprints and creating lasting memories, ” she added.
The theme for this year’s tourism month is sustainable tourism for development.
She appealed to everyone to understand what one can present to make tourism a reality.
