Eskom helps improve early childhood development in Mashishing

The mobile libraries are equipped with a wide range of educational toys and resources and are meant enhance the learning experience for children and can reach them in remote areas

Eskom Development Foundation has donated educational play materials to Cotlands’ Toy Library Hub in Mashishing, Mpumalanga.

The Foundation made this donation in a bid to improve early childhood development (ECD) in the area.
The donation, which will give children and ECD practitioners access to a collection of carefully selected educational toys, also includes play sessions and training on how to use the toys to enhance development.

Cotlands operates as a non-centre based delivery model of an integrated, holistic ECD programme which includes play-based education, health, physical and nutritional support.

The mobile libraries are equipped with a wide range of educational toys and resources and are meant enhance the learning experience for children and can reach them in remote areas.

The donation is part of Eskom’s commitment to bringing about meaningful and sustainable development in South African communities, and will benefit around 1400 people in the area including the children and their parents, caregivers/ECD practitioners.

Eskom Development Foundation’s acting Chief Executive Officer, Cecil Ramonotsi, says the Foundation wants to make a difference in communities by showing that Eskom is more than just an electricity supplier.

“We make these donations to improve the quality of life for ordinary South Africans and to reinforce our support for the country’s education system. There is a lot that organisations like us can do to assist in making schools and learning environments for children more conducive for their development. As Eskom, our aim is to bring about positive change and growth in communities,” says Ramonotsi.
