Learners registration open for 2018 academic year

In Mpumalanga all public schools started admitting learners from May 2, a process which will continue until July 31.

MBOMBELA – Parents are encouraged to enrol their children in schools for the 2018 academic year.

This also includes children with special educational needs who should be catered for in the inclusive and special schools in the province.

“Unless directed otherwise by the head of department, principals are required to manage this process in their respective institutions and to compile reports to update the line function on progress in accordance to the admission policy of learners in public schools and the school’s admission policy,”

says Mr Jasper Zwane, spokesperson for the department.

He adds that schools’ admission policies must always take into account the constitutional mandates and should be in line with the dictates of the South African Schools Act No 84 of 1996.

The enrollment of learners is compulsory and parents are required by law to produce the following documents as requirement for registration:
• An application form from the school, an official birth certificates of the child, proof of immunization, a transfer card if a learner transfers from one public school to another and the last report card issued by the previous school.

Zwane adds that any parent who does not comply after having been informed about this obligation may be taken to court in terms of the South African Schools Act.

The early admission of learners enables schools to begin with teaching and learning during the first day of school re-opening without destruction.

I urge all parents to heed this call by making the necessary arrangements to register their children on or before July 31. No learner can be refused admission on the basis that his/her parents are unable to pay school fees,

” adds the department’s MEC Ms Reginah Mhaule.
