Through the grapevine

Last week the country woke up to the sad news of Karabo Mokoena's death, after she was allegedly murdered by her lover. Social media went crazy with various hashtags created, but one that brought humour was #menaretrash.

Women are quite sensitive when they are the victims, yet no one reacts that badly when men are victimised. They, too, get raped, abused and have their genitals removed.

Not that we are condoning what happens to our fellow sisters, but let us be fair and acknowledge other men.  Categorising all of them under one umbrella is not on.

Moving right along to other things, ey what a sentence we came across last week! Well, a certain department postponed their event and issued out a statement that read, “The event has been suspended.” Whuuu mara! Let’s not even talk about the SAPS’ statements… Never did we think “potential rapists” existed. HAHAHAHA!

On the real though, English may not be our mother tongue and no, don’t make excuses that it never loved us. It’s embarrassing to see such glitches when some even brag of having obtained degrees at social events yet they struggle to construct simple sentences.

A rule for the queen’s lingo: Keep it short and simple! English is not a level of intelligence, but when writing, try not to be adventurous. Let us all try to be open-minded and above all, to have a teachable spirit.

May the force be with you!
