Miss MP ready to tackle Zazi issues

She is adamant that through her efforts she will contribute to the reduction of social ills.

MBOMBELA – Miss Mpumalanga, Geraldine Williams, will make a concerted effort to tackle issues affecting society that have led to an increase in HIV infections, broken homes and a disconcerted youth in the province.

She said, “I know my predecessor, Elaine Mkhabela, did a sterling job. From a distance, one can feel that I have very big shoes to fill. I’m one person who will not emulate her because I am my own person. I will tackle issues such as Zazi in my own unique way and I will surely leave an indelible mark.”

Geraldine said Zazi – Know Your Strength Campaign is all encompassing as it involves young girls and women, young boys and men, parents, teachers and all stakeholders in the 17 local municipalities that she will be engaged with.

“I come from the deep rural community of Volksrust in Pixley ka Seme. I have witnessed anomalies in our society. I sat down with my team here and strategised what affects our society and completed a comprehensive plan. We need to focus on the most biting issues which affect young people, both young girls and boys. For me and the team, it is useless concentrating only on girls, because the problem stem from both.

Geraldine Williams was crowned Miss Mpumalanga 2017 on Saturday March 18, 2017 at the Mbombela Stadium.

“It is useless leaving out the so-called blessers from our interventions. we are calling on communities to participate, because that is where ‘blessers’ come from. We will visit the hot spots, taverns and prostitution rings and talk to them directly.

“The moral fibre of our society is in a bad state. This undermines the efforts put in by our health practitioners, including the various aids councils of local municipalities. The restoration of our cultural values, circumcision and the upbringing of young boys to be responsible citizens, are our primary objectives.

“It is of paramount importance that society views the scourge of HIV/Aids in a positive light, then we will win this war,” she said.

As the principal ambassador, she has vowed that she will live and lead by example.

“It is my conviction, as the queen and ambassador, that our efforts will not be in vain. I plead for the full cooperation of society as we embark on this journey. I’m fully committed to it and ready to hit the road,” she ended.
