Burglaries are on the rise

Police officers are hard at work to track down rampant criminals responsible for a spate of burglaries

MASOYI – Housebreaking has increased to tremendous heights in this area and surrounding villages.

The spokesperson of the local police, Const Nanikie Nonyane said they have received a high number of cases from the community.

“Burglary is becoming problematic. We are appealing to our people to make sure that security is very tight in their houses. But as police, we are working tirelessly to track down these criminals so that they can face the might of the law,” she said.

Nonyane added that community members who have more information must work with the police as they are determined to fight crime.

Here are a few tips to prevent burglary:

* Make your home look occupied and beef up your security by installing burglars on your windows and doors so that it is difficult to break in.
* Make sure you check all your windows and doors are properly closed before you can go to bed or leave your house if you are going somewhere.
* Your lights must be on even when you are not around so that they criminals will not hide in dark corners in your yard.
* Lastly, you must also promote the culture of neighbourhood watch.(Tell your neighbour when you are not at home so that they can keep an eye on your house)
