Getting up close and personal

Sibiya says after he realised that a number of music stores were shutting down, he felt that there was a need to buy Jet Music and make history in the industry by acquiring such a huge franchise.

MBOMBELA – A renowned businessman aims to groom the youth in all aspects of the music industry because he believes as future leaders, they are capable of taking it to greater heights.

That’s the brainchild of none other than Johan Sibiya, the owner of Jet Music stores countrywide and owner of Johan Sibiya Music, popularly known as “Sibiya Wami”. Sibiya frankly stated that although we are living on borrowed time, he thanks God that he is living his dream.

“It was not easy to get to where I am today. I thank God that I am living my dream because to live your dream, means doing what you love – which is seeing people happy. That is a secret that kept me going in the music industry,” he said.

He said owning Jet Music Stores countrywide is a huge achievement since entertainment is very close to his heart. “I have learnt that in life there are no short cuts to success. “I must say it was not an easy journey, but the joint love and support from the people of the province and the encouragement by the late Mfanakazane Sambo from Ligwalagwala FM, made me who I am today.

“When I started my recording company, I began by focusing on local people which includes the likes of Buhle Bentuthuko gospel group, Joe Silinda, David Masondo from The Soul Brothers, just to mention a few. “As time moved on, other artists approached me like your Deborah Fraser and Thabile Myeni from Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors and many others,” he stated.

Sibiya says after he realised that a number of music stores were shutting down, he felt that there was a need to buy Jet Music and make history in the industry by acquiring such a huge franchise.

“In life, you must not always think you’re wasting money by acquiring new business, but it’s all about further developing your business scope and company. “I received a lot of criticism when I bought Jet Music Stores. I don’t blame them because they are clueless of my vision for the industry. “Jet Music was a positive move, not only for me as an individual, but a lot of young people have benefited in terms of job opportunities. “That is the very reason I said I wanted to work with young people so that they can see the diversity of job opportunities within the industry. “In most cases, we only think about singing, yet there’s a lot in store in this business,” he said.
