The district’s teachers are the best

Teachers are hailed by many as important role models in society, who need to be cherished. This ceremony, attended by hundreds of educators, proved it true.

MIDDELBURG – The Ehlanzeni District shone at the Mpumalanga Department of Education’s 2016 National Teaching Awards last week.

Of all the eight categories, Ehlanzeni District won in six, including the Lifetime Achiever Award that went to Mr Harold Gondwe.
“I am humbled and it is an inspiration for me to encourage my staff to work hard. I appreciate the learners and parents for working closely with our school, it has paid off, ” said the principal of Sitintile Secondary School.

MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, commended the teachers for taking part in this initiative and other programmes offered by the department.
“As provincial government, we aim to fulfil the needs of both the teacher and learner.
“We are not yet there, but we have managed to close certain gaps by hosting such events for educators to be recognised for their hard work,” said Mhaule.

Teachers were honoured in categories ranging from primary school, special needs and inclusive training, and teaching and learning awards for excellence in mathematics, among others. These awards were established in 2000.
