The operation was aimed at teaching people the importance of saving electricity, the dangers of electricity theft and its consequences. Eskom’s technicians disconnected illegal connections of five houses. Community members were left furious stating that their stands are old, but there are still no electricity meters.

Ms Zanele Nkosi, a resident said: “In Mangweni there are new stands that were introduced after ours, but they already have electricity connections. We wonder how because we have been living here longer before they got those stands. Life is very difficult without electricity, that is why people are connecting illegally because Eskom takes time to install meters in our houses,” she added.
