In the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality’s Ward 7, five councillor candidates from different parties will be contesting for the position

MBOMBELA – Councillor candidates from two wards in Mpumalanga are among the 66 candidates countrywide to contest in the by-elections tomorrow.

In the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality’s Ward 7, five councillor candidates from different parties will be contesting for the position. This comes after the previously represented by the African National Congress post became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.

Names of the new councillor candidates are Mr Sipho Thulani Mnisi of the ANC , EFF’s Vusi Joseph Hleza, Sipho Goodwell Shabangu of Forum 4 Service Delivery, Harriet Vuyisile Mnisi of Inkatha Freedom Party and Melvis Timothy Mbokane of the National Freedom Party.

According to the IEC’s Sibusiso Nkosi, communication officer in the province, the voter turn-out for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 55.94%.

The second ward where the elections will take place is Ward 6 in the Victor Khanye Municipality.

This follows the resignation of the ANC councilor in the ward. Councillor candidates are Diikgetse Ramaseka Sepenyane an independent candidate, Mhlupheki Meshack Thombeni of the ANC, DA’s Simon Mhlaba Skosana, EFF’s Max Magagula, Petrus William of the NFP and Walter Austin Lewis of the Vyheidsfront Plus.

“The voter turn-out for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 58.17%,” he ended.
