Developments under way in Ehlanzeni

MBOMBELA – The chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Mr Ben Martins said they were impressed with the progress made on various projects around Ehlanzeni.

comes after an entourage of representatives from the Department of Public Works, the Independent Development Trust (IDT), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) as well as the provincial Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport embarked on a week-long oversight visit to various infrastructure developments taking place around
the region.

Martins and his delegates were briefed on the progress made on each of the projects, including the R4 million Ehlanzeni City Improvement Project and renovations of Rob Ferreira Hospital. “We were impressed with the improvements at Rob Ferreira Hospital. We viewed the nurses training facility, the accommodation sites for nurses and doctors and we noticed that all the structures were up to standard,” explained Martins.

The committee also visited the Traffic Training College in Bushbuckridge. “We saw that progress was well under way. We inspected the college and its facilities for trainees and were pleased with what we saw,” he said.

Martins added that the committee also visited the Barberton prison where they were satisfied with its security features. He also expressed his excitement about the progress made on the first-ever High Court in Mbombela, which is currently at 95 per cent completion. Initially, this project was budgeted at R613 023 401 of which
R99 450 000 had been used to date.

Martins said the only place that needed extra attention was the Mananga border post where various departments were found to be working under one roof.

“The border needs more facilities to help employees do their work more effectively,” he added.
The committee will also visit other provinces for the same course and will report its findings to parliament.
