DA to march for the resignation of Mashego

Health facilities in Mpumalanga are in dire need of a new leadership that has the will to change the lives of our people.

MBOMBELA- Tomorrow, the  DA Mpumalanga chairperson and health spokesperson, Jane Sithole MPL , will lead a march to the provincial legislature,  to hand over a memorandum demanding for the resignation of Health MEC, Gillion Mashego, amongst other things.

“Health facilities in Mpumalanga are in dire need of a new leadership that has the will to change the lives of our people. The DA has continuously been exposing the deteriorating public health care system in the province and went as far as lodging a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in 2013.

The SAHRC made condemning findings against the Health Department. However, health care in the province is not improving and under the stewardship of MEC Mashego, things have gone from bad to worse.

In a recent announcement by the Health Department, 3 000 funded positions from the 12 800 vacant positions will not be filled in order to curb the high public wage bill in the province.

This decision by the department places enormous pressure on an already overburden public health care system which will mean less staff available at clinics and hospitals and existing staff being overworked.

It is becoming increasingly clear that MEC Mashego is unable to turn thing around in his department. He must do the right thing and resign,” says  the party in a media release.

The march will start at 10:30 from next to the Grove Shopping Centre on the  R40 and end at the provincial Government Complex.
