The kwaito legend's battle with cancer ended on Sunday after- after he performed for the last time at Orlando stadium a week ago.

The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture is saddened by the passing of South African kwaito artist Mduduzi “Mandoza” Tshabalala. “We would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family. His passing is not only a loss to them, but to every South African,” said Ms Xoliswa Tom, the Chairperson of the Committee

Tshabala was amongst a group of artists that pioneered the kwaito genre and produced music that is distinctly South African and epitomises the uniqueness of our country’s culture and heritage. “His music transcended generational and racial gaps and proved to be among catalysts in efforts to build an inclusive country.”

The Committee is grateful for the time he was with us and the immense contributions he made to the arts. “We hope that his family will find solace in the fact that he made an indelible contribution to the music industry and he will forever remain a music icon,” said Ms Tom.
