Cosatu’s Fidel sworn in Mpumalanga government

The vacancy was created by the resignation of Ms Nomsa Mstweni from the Legislature

MBOMBELA- “Mr Fana, Vincent (Fidel) Mlombo is hereby sworn-in as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature with effect from the 15th of August 2016,” announced speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature,Ms Thandi Shongwe as she presides over the swearing-in at the Legislature in Mbombela.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of Ms Nomsa Mstweni from the Legislature.

“I Fidel Mlombo, swear that I will be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and will obey, respect and uphold the Constitution and other laws of the Republic, and I solemnly promise to perform my functions as a member of the Legislature of the Province of Mpumalanga to the best of my ability,” said Mlombo with his right hand raised.

The swearing-in is line with the requirements of the Electoral Act and the reviewed list of candidates for the African National Congress (ANC) that was duly published by the Legislature in the Government Gazette on the 12th of June 2015.

Mr Mlombo is not new to Mpumalanga politics. He started his political career in 1985 when he joined COSATU. When he was working at SAPPI in Ngodwana, he was the leader of Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union (PPAWU).

In 1995, he left PPAWU and joined the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) as the Provincial Educator Organiser. In 2002, he left SACCAWU and joined COSATU as the Provincial Educator Organiser. In 2009 he was elected the Provincial Secretary of COSATU to date.

He is currently serving as the PEC member of the South African Communist Party (SACP).

He is a Council Member and a Chairperson of Human Resource at the Mpumalanga University, a Board Member at MEGA and a Chairperson of EMalahleni Housing Board.

His extensive knowledge of the public sector will enable him to execute his newly found oversight duties of the Legislature effectively.
