Shongwe condemns senseless killing of a traffic officer

This comes after a traffic officer, Mr Bongani Nkumba was shot while on duty on the R23 road in Standerton.

MBOMBELA- Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has condemned the recent senseless killing of a departmental traffic officer in Standerton.

Shongwe called for a harsher sentence on the perpetrators. He also urged law enforces not to be deterred from doing their utmost in ensuring road safety by such rogue elements but to work even harder to ensure compliance with traffic rules and regulations at all time.

This comes after a traffic officer, Mr Bongani Nkumba was shot while on duty on the R23 road in Standerton.
“He had just finished another operation in Cillierd near Standerton and was on his way to join his colleagues in another operation of the R23 road when he a saw suspicious looking vehicle which he signalled to stop,” explained a media release.
The release continued to state that Nkumba did his routine check-ups on the vehicle with two occupants.

On his way to issue summons from his own car the occupants followed him and one of them fatally shot him.
Police pursued the suspects who were driving a vehicle with registration numbers from Lesotho.
The two suspects were later arrested at the Maseru Port of Entry on the same day.
