Mbombela is negotiating with three PSL teams

If the deal goes through, it means that local soccer supporters might still be able to watch Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at this very same stadium.

Mpumalanga News can safely confirm that the Mbombela Stadium management is currently in negotiations with at least three Premier Soccer League teams, in the hope of getting them to utilise this state-of-the-art soccer and rugby stadium.

The stadium, which was previously the home of Mpumalanga Black Aces, will this season be without a full-time home soccer team, which might result in less soccer action for locals to enjoy.

Asked for comment, the stadium’s spokesman, Mthuthuzeli Qamba confirmed they were already engaged in talks with a number of teams and was hopeful to score a few big games for the province.
“Yes, it’s true, we are in negotiations with certain teams in the PSL to use the stadium as their alternative home, especially during their big games.

Unfortunately, we cannot divulge the names of the teams until we have an agreement in place with them,” said Qamba.

Qamba reiterated the fact that there was no need for panic as yet, since they were working around the clock to secure something for the local soccer fanatics.

“There is no reason to be worried, because even before Aces came here, the stadium hosted a number of big games and we will continue to have games.

“We are eyeing at least 10 good games here,” he committed. Mpumalanga News has also reliably

learnt that the stadium management is bidding for rights to host Bafana Bafana on September 6.

Apart from soccer, the stadium will also play host to the Rugby Castle Lager Incoming clash between the Springboks and Argentina on August 20.
