Tickets for the much-anticipated soccer showpiece featuring Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are officially sold out.

The two soccer epics in African football are set to do battle during the 2016 Carling Black Label Champion Cup on Saturday. This annual soccer event has proven to be quite a popular event on the SA football calendar. The overwhelming reaction by fans, in the past five years, shows that this is not a normal derby. This cup gives players the privilege to influence the starting line-up and “be the coach”.

Vijay Govindsamy, Carling Black Label general manager, expressed his delight at the response. “This is another milestone for us at Carling Black Label. It speaks volumes about the initiative, and also shows that fans are hungry for football action. The Carling Black Label Champion Cup comes at the right time. We would like to thank our champion coaches for their continued engagement and support of this unique initiative,” he said.

“We knew that partnering with the two teams in this campaign will transcend football. I cannot think of a better way to preview the upcoming season other than with a classic encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and their arch rivals Orlando Pirates in a stadium packed to capacity,” he continued. Although tickets are sold out, adult consumers can still win tickets by listening to the Sekunjalo shows on SABC Radio stations, including Ligwalagwala FM, and on social media platforms.

Fans can still have an opportunity to influence the outcome of the day and the starting line-up – the power of selection is in their hands. Soccer fanatics are in for a treat, since an agreement has been reached with the South African Football Association that Chiefs’ duo, Itumeleng Khune and Eric Mathoho, will join the national team in Brazil after their game against Pirates.

However, the Buccaneers will feel hard done by this since their players, Abbubaker Mobara, Gift Motupa, Repo Malepe and Thabiso Kutumela, will not be part of this competition. The four players have also been selected to be part of the national team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Olympic Games.
