Youth month set to entice young people

It looks like the youth in the province will have fun celebrating their month, with all the exciting activities set aside for their benefit.

MBOMBELA – It looks like the youth in the province will have fun celebrating their month, with all the exciting activities set aside for their benefit.

The youth desk from the Premier’s Office, together with the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation, launched the held an official launch for the month at Nelspruit Protea Hotel.

Amongst other exciting things in the calendar, the youth will be afforded the opportunity to interact with Premier David Mabuza, together with the executive council.

“We are taking things to a different direction this year.

Last year we hosted summits all over the province, this year we are focusing on responding to all the issues that were raised then.

About 2000 young people will have the chance to interact with the Premier and MECs.

We are also shifting the focus to agriculture, we want people to know that they can still pursue that field and it could work,” said the Chairperson of the Youth Desk, Mr Desmond Moela.

Asked whether this is just a youth month frenzy, Moela said his desk is new, and it will focus on empowering the youth irrespective of the time of the year.

“That’s exactly what we want to change, the perspective that we only do things in commemoration of the youth month.

This will go on for the entire year. We want to bring young people together with the goal of empowering and developing them,” he added.

The MEC for the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation, Ms Norah Mahlangu-Mabena, says her department will take to the streets to engage with young people this month.

“Rallies are no longer well for the Youth month, young people do not really speak out during such.

Hence we are excited about the upcoming dialogue the Premier will have with the young people.

We will also do our part in assisting our young people to organize War Rooms which will be instrumental in helping government reach out to the youth,” said Mahlangu-Mabena.

The main celebration will be hosted at Orlando Stadium on June 16, while the provincial one will be hosted at KaMagugu, Church on the Hill on June 17.

The dialogue is scheduled for June 24 as follows; Economic Development at Ermelo, Legislature at Gert Sibande, and Mpumalanga Tourism Parks Agency at Nsikazi.
