Zuma urges Councillors to be clean

He says councillors must love the people and beloved by the people in return

MBOMBELA – The president, Mr Jacob Zuma urged ANC councillors on to be hygienically clean and of good reputation.

“Councillors must bath and be clean like charmers. (Kufuneka amasoka hhayi nje isishimane). They must love the people and be beloved by the people in return,” said Zuma during the launch of the ANC provincial manifesto at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

He added that they have to be of good reputation and report to the community of progress made. “Councillors should hold meetings with the community and outline what they are doing. We will monitor them and they have to give reports of their work,” he said to the applause of the crowds.

Zuma also expressed his appreciation to the winners of the South African Music Awards held in Durban on Saturday. He further said he believed the SABC’s decision to play 90 per cent South African music was already yielding fruits. “I hope other broadcasters will follow the SABC’s decision,” he said.
