Nomination is a cherry on top for Mbangeni

The recognition for her music in the country has caused Jessica Mbangeni to put her trip to France on hold so she can attend this year’s SAMAs.

The singer received her first nomination this year in the best African adult album category.

“When I heard the news that I’ve been nominated I told myself that everything can wait because my country needs me. I’m already a winner,” she says.

She adds that she’s excited about Saturday and she’s going to rock the red carpet with pride knowing that her 16 years of hard work is finally paying off.

“I’ve made myself a regalia that I’ll be wearing during the event and I know I’ll be making history as I walk down the carpet,” she adds.

The fact that she hasn’t been nominated alongside artists she thought it would make sense to be in the same categories with has made her aware of the fact that she is unique, she says.

“I’m glad to know that I’m creating a legacy that will be carried throughout the music years.

Look out for that Royal gown on Saturday. I’m looking forward to walking to that stage to receive my award,” she says.

Mbangeni started off performing in musicals and got her big break in 2002 when she auditioned to be part of the Soweto Gospel Choir.
