Truck driver case to continue next year

The Nelspruit High Court also withdrew all the charges of attempted murder against him.

MBOMBELA – The court case against the truck driver accused of killing 24 casual workers and attempting to kill 23 others will continue on February 10 next year.

Mr George Mandlazi was initially charged with 24 counts of murder; 23 of attempted murder and one of reckless and negligent driving.

He continuously pleaded not guilty until Tuesday (November 11) when he changed to plead to guilty culpable homicide.

The Nelspruit High Court also withdrew all the charges of attempted murder against him.

On November 13 , the presiding judge on the matter Judge Nomsa Khumalo agreed with a request put by both Mandlazi’s legal representative and the state prosecutor for the matter to be postpone so that reports from the victims’ families and injured person as well as Mandlazi report on his personal circumstances could be obtained for the court to continue with presentation and arguments for a suitable sentence.

Mandlazi’s bail of R3 000 was extended as well.
