Residents set two suspects on fire

According to the police, both men were suspected to have allegedly committed criminal activities such as armed robberies and rape.

BLOCK A – The community took matters into their own hands over the weekend when they hunted and set alight two men believed to be criminals on Sunday and Monday respectively.

According to the police, both men were suspected to have allegedly committed criminal activities such as armed robberies and rape.

“The community dragged the suspects to the local graveyard, and beat them up before setting them alight. These are two incidents that took place in two days, but it was the same case because the second criminal was hunted down on Sunday just after the first one had died,” said Sgt Gerald Sedibe of the SAPS.

Sedibe condemned this act by the community and encouraged them to report the cases and allow the police do work on the cases.

“We plead with the communities to allow the police to intervene on such situations. It’s a criminal offence to take matters into your own hands and it should be stopped,” he added.

He confirmed that a murder case has been opened and is currently under investigation.
