Campaign leaders deny allegations of sabotage

The leaders of the Save ANC in Mpumalanga campaign have distanced themselves from allegations that they are instigating communities to protest service delivery.

MBOMBELA – The leaders of the Save ANC in Mpumalanga campaign have distanced themselves from allegations that they are instigating communities to protest service delivery.

The leaders allege that they have been widely accused of defying and sabotaging the leadership of the ANC in the province.

This comes after the recent servicedelivery protests that took place at Khumbula Trust near KaBokweni.

It is alleged that the residents were against the apparent imposition of candidates on the nomination list for councillors to stand in the forthcoming local government elections.

Mpumalanga News learnt that the same scenario occurred in Pienaar, KaNyamazane, KaBokweni, Barberton and Bushbuckridge, just to mentioned a few.

It is alleged that there are leaders of the campaign who are using the community, giving them money and alcohol to gather the courage to sabotage the ruling party.

In an interview with one of the leaders of the campaign, Mr Peter Nyoni said,

“It’s not true that we are funding to sabotage the ANC. We are members of the ruling party, so how can we sabotage our own party.”

“Just because we are running this campaign does not mean that we are against the party.

The only thing we want is to restore the history of the party, as we have realised that it’s no longer the same.

There is no unity within the party,” he said. Nyoni added that there were certain individuals who felt they owned the party, doing as they please.

“There are a lot of members within the organisation who are not happy with the way it is operating, but they are afraid to stand their ground and speak their minds.

Just because we have the courage to stand up and be vocal about the challenges within the party, about everything that is not going well or not right, they now accuse us and we have noted that.”

When questioned by this publication on the rumour that the campaign was founded by comrades who were angry for no longer obtaining tenders from the government, he said,

“That is not true. The reason the campaign was founded is to correct the mistakes that are still happening within the party, mistakes that might have a bad impact on the building of a strong party, Also, this campaign seeks to remedy the imbalances of the past”.

Meanwhile, one of the leaders of Save ANC in Mpumalanga, Mr Sipho Monareng, left the ANC a few days ago and joined the EFF.

Being among the 70 members of the ANC who were welcomed by the provincial chairperson of the EFF, Mr Collen Sedibe, at the White River Town Hall.

One of the leaders of the campaign, Mr Senzeni Ngubeni said, “We hope that it will send a message to the leaders of the ruling party because a lot of people will end up joining opposition parties if the ANC continues to fail in addressing its internal problems.

Monareng’s move does not mean the end of the campaign, we are moving forward and will continue with it until our voice is heard.”

He said they were confident they would win this battle and bring unity and good working relationships to the ANC.
