Man killed in his home, suspects still at large

According to Nyambi, this was not the first break-in to be experienced by the family of the deceased.

TONGA – The police in Nkomazi are out on a quest to find suspects who fatally shot a 45-year-old man at Mzinti in the wee hours of Monday.

It is alleged that two unknown suspects broke into the house of the deceased identified as Dan Mabuza, and fired three gun shots before they fled the scene. The police were called immediately and the victim was declared dead on the scene.

“It’s still not clear what the suspects took and what the motive of the killing was. A case of murder has been opened and it’s under investigation,” said Lt Mzwandile Nyambi of Tonga SAPS.

According to Nyambi, this was not the first break-in to be experienced by the family of the deceased.

“On January 8, two unknown men reportedly broke into Mabuza’s house and the suspects took his son to the spare room where they tied him up with his belt and covered him with a blanket, before searching the house. After a long while the victim managed to untie himself, but the suspects had already fled the scene,” added Nyambi.

The stolen properties, his laptop, perfumes, cellphone, and nursing epaulettes were recovered later. A case of house robbery was opened at Tonga police station, which is still undergoing.
