Principal opens fire over results dispute
A 49-year-old school principal is due to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s court for murder.
Tonga – The principal from Phiva, has allegedly shot and killed a certain Nkosingiphile Mkhabela (29) on the stomach, on Wednesday evening.
According to the information provided by the police, Mkhabela accused the suspect of being responsible for making Mkhabela’s brother fail at school. An argument ensued and the suspect withdrew a fire-arm and fatally wounded Mkhabela.
“The police were summoned to the scene and the victim was certified dead by the emergency medical services officials.
“A case of murder has been opened at Tonga police station and it is under investigation. The suspect handed himself over to the Police yesterday immediately after the incident. He is expected to greet the magistrate today,” said Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi, Spokesperson for Tonga SAPS.
The Acting station commander, Colonel Bhutana Sibiya, has urged the community to calm down and handle the issue in a professional manner, and to allow the law to take its course.
