Church leader honors the elderly

"We had a special lunch with them and the aim was to show them love and affirm the love of God to them."

Elders are the fountain of wisdom and had played a significant role in the liberation of this country and thus they need to be honoured, respected and loved.

This message was not only conveyed by word of mouth, but was recently put to practice as the founders of Christian Unity Revival Centre in KaNyamazane, Pastr Jackson Mambwe and his wife who is also a pastor in the same church, Ms Miriam Masuku, hosted more than 20 elders from the township and treated them to a sumptuous lunch over the weekend.

The theme of the day was based on Isaiah 46 verse 4 which reads: ‘Even to your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

“We had a special lunch with them and the aim was to show them love and affirm the love of God to them, that regardless of every challenge they face God loves them,” explained the pastors.

The couple also urged the community to take care of elders and stop insulting and calling them names as it is common knowledge that elders are usually associated with witchcraft and other frills.

Each of the elderly was presented with Bibles, which they were urged to read and meditate about on a daily basis.

They also took some of the food home to share with their families.
